PM Shah reaffirms commitment to balanced foreign policy, stronger ties with partners

Prime Minister Balendra Shah has said that his government is committed to further strengthening Nepal’s relations with friendly countries and advancing partnerships based on mutual benefit.

KATHMANDU, April 8: Prime Minister Balendra Shah has reaffirmed Nepal’s commitment to a balanced and pragmatic foreign policy, underscoring the government’s intent to strengthen ties with friendly nations and development partners.



During a joint courtesy call by ambassadors and heads of diplomatic missions based in Kathmandu at the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers on Wednesday, Prime Minister Shah said Nepal accords high importance to its relations with all countries and remains committed to partnerships based on mutual benefit.


According to the Office of the Prime Minister, the prime minister stated that Nepal’s external engagements are guided by the goal of shared prosperity. He expressed appreciation for the continued goodwill and support extended by development partners and friendly nations toward Nepal’s development efforts.

Highlighting global challenges, Prime Minister Shah stressed that ongoing conflicts disproportionately affect ordinary citizens and said peace must remain a shared priority. He expressed confidence in collective international efforts to promote peace and stability.


Reiterating policy continuity, the prime minister said a change in government does not signify a break from existing commitments. He emphasised the importance of maintaining political stability and ensuring a predictable policy environment.


He also reaffirmed the government’s commitment to creating an investment-friendly climate, promoting entrepreneurship and supporting sustainable development. Nepal, he said, aims to further integrate into regional and global economic frameworks in line with its national interests.


Prime Minister Shah noted that the government is keen to expand cooperation in areas such as development, trade, investment, climate action and people-to-people relations. He also stressed that the safety, security and well-being of Nepali citizens abroad remain a top priority.


Ambassadors and heads of missions from India, Pakistan, the Republic of Korea, the United Kingdom, Qatar, Switzerland, France, Israel, Japan, Bangladesh, Germany, Egypt, Sri Lanka, Saudi Arabia, China, the United States of America and the United Nations attended the meeting.


They congratulated the prime minister and conveyed messages from their respective heads of state and government, expressing support and cooperation for the new administration in delivering results for the Nepali people.


Foreign Minister Shisir Khanal, Political Advisor to the Prime Minister Asim Shah, Chief Secretary Suman Raj Aryal, Foreign Secretary Amrit Bahadur Rai and other senior government officials were also present on the occasion.
