NAGOYA, Sept. 23: Tenzing Sherpa delivered Nepal its first medal at the 20th Asian Games, winning bronze in karate in Japan on Wednesday.
The 23-year-old Sherpa defeated Xayasan Vatthana of Laos 9-1 in the bronze-medal bout of the men’s kumite under-84kg category at the Toyohashi Gymnasium.

Sherpa dominated the bout, scoring six points through yuko and three through ippon, while Xayasan managed one yuko.
The bronze marked Nepal’s first medal at the ongoing Asian Games and came in the final karate competition of the Games.
