BAGLUNG, Aug 21: A total of 21 Naurs (Himalayan blue sheep) and 11 Jharals (Himalayan tahr) were hunted in Dhorpatan Hunting Reserve, Nepal’s only hunting reserve, over the past year.
Foreign hunters paid more than Rs 41.7 million in revenue to the Department of National Parks and Wildlife Conservation to hunt Naurs and Jharals through competitive bidding.

Dhorpatan is open for hunting twice a year. According to reserve Ranger Sagar Subedi, the reserve had issued permits to hunt 11 Naurs and eight Jharals during the first hunting season, from Asoj to Mangsir, of the last fiscal year. Hunters killed eight Naurs and five Jharals during the season.
Similarly, permits were issued for 14 Naurs and 10 Jharals during the second hunting season, from Falgun to Baishakh. Thirteen naurs and six Jharals were killed during the second season.
Foreign hunters visit Dhorpatan to hunt through competitive bidding, paying high fees for the permits. Hunters from the United States, Spain, the Netherlands, Mexico and other countries come to Nepal to hunt naurs and jharals.
