KATHMANDU, July 24: Nepal Police has deported 47 foreign women accused of engaging in immoral activities in Kathmandu’s tourist hubs of Thamel and Durbar Marg.
Speaking at a press conference on Friday, Kathmandu District Police Range SP Pawan Kumar Bhattarai said 57 foreign women were arrested during a special operation, of whom 47 have been deported through the Department of Immigration.
According to police, the deported women were from Uganda, Vietnam, Thailand, Bangladesh, Kenya and Indonesia, among other countries. Investigations into the remaining 10 women are ongoing.

SP Bhattarai said the operation was launched following complaints that foreign nationals were engaging in immoral activities in popular tourist areas such as Thamel and Durbar Marg.
He said investigations found that some foreign nationals were involved in such activities because Nepal offered a relatively low cost of living and opportunities linked to the nightlife economy.
Police also said organized networks involved in online betting are under investigation. According to police, money generated through betting platforms is being transferred abroad using hundi and cryptocurrency.
Authorities said they have intensified monitoring of betting websites, investigations into financial transactions, and efforts to identify individuals and groups involved.
Separately, police said 309 people have been arrested as part of a campaign against middlemen accused of obstructing public service delivery. Of them, 61 have been subjected to legal action, SP Bhattarai said.
