KATHMANDU, April 27: Acting Mayor of Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) Sunita Dangol has directed authorities to begin work on protecting public land that has been cleared of squatter settlements.
Following an inspection of the Thapathali section of the Bagmati riverbank, she instructed concerned agencies including the High-Powered Committee for Integrated Development of the Bagmati Civilization to coordinate and immediately begin fencing the cleared areas.

On Saturday, 143 houses and sheds built by encroaching the Bagmati riverbank in Thapathali were demolished.
Following the removal of these structures from high-risk areas, 34 displaced families comprising 115 individuals have been sheltered at the Radha Soami Satsang Beas building in Kirtipur with support from the metropolitan city.
According to Central Police Spokesperson Abi Narayan Kafle, a total of 1,272 houses and sheds built on encroached government and public land have been demolished across four locations in the Kathmandu Valley.
