KATHMANDU, Nov 19: All flights at Simara Airport have been cancelled following clashes between UML cadres and Gen Z protesters.
Tribhuvan International Airport spokesperson Rinji Sherpa said both-way flights between Simara and Kathmandu were halted.
Flights to and from Simara Airport curtailed until June 27
“Buddha Air operated one flight to Simara in the morning, but all remaining flights for the day have been cancelled. Passengers who had already reached the airport were sent back home, and those scheduled for afternoon flights have been informed by the airline,” Sherpa said.
Before the airport was shut, Buddha Air had completed its first flight to Simara. Passengers for the second flight had already boarded the aircraft when the situation outside the airport turned tense due to the clash.
To bring the situation under control, the Bara District Administration Office imposed a curfew within a 500-meter radius of the airport and along both sides of the Gandak Canal–Pathlaiya road section until 8 PM. Buddha Air then cancelled all remaining flights.
