KATHMANDU, July 29: Political leaders from across the spectrum have agreed to issue a joint appeal urging the public to maintain calm and uphold social harmony as tensions continue to simmer in Sunsari and several other areas.
The decision was taken at an all-party meeting convened by ruling Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) President Rabi Lamichhane at Singha Durbar on Wednesday.

Speaking after the meeting, Nepali Congress Parliamentary Party Leader Vishmaraj Angdembe said all participating parties had reached a consensus to issue a joint statement calling for restraint in a bid to ease the unrest in Sunsari and other affected areas.
Leaders also voiced concern over the absence of both the prime minister and the home minister from the meeting, saying their absence had deepened uncertainty at a time when the country required decisive leadership. They urged the government to respond responsibly and take swift steps to restore public confidence.
According to Angdembe, participants stressed that the prime minister should consult the president and take all political parties into confidence while seeking a resolution to the crisis. However, they felt the government had not paid adequate attention to such an inclusive approach.
CPN-UML General Secretary Shankar Pokhrel said the meeting focused extensively on ways to restore normalcy in Sunsari and other areas experiencing unrest.
He said leaders from various political parties questioned why the government had failed to effectively contain the situation and maintain law and order, calling for stronger and more coordinated action to ensure peace and security.
