Anti-rabies vaccine supply adequate: Health Ministry

KATHMANDU, June 25: The Ministry of Health and Food Safety has said that there are currently around 10,000 vials of anti-rabies vaccine in stock.



Ministry's Joint-Spokesperson Dr Samir Kumar Adhikari said that there are currently 10,011 vials of anti-rabies vaccine in stock at central, provincial and district-level hospitals.


According to him, with the support of the World Health Organization, 2,500 vials of anti-rabies vaccine have already been received and an additional 4,500 vials are expected to arrive in the next few days.

He said the Ministry has taken necessary steps in coordination with relevant agencies to ensure the continuous provision of essential rabies prevention and treatment services across the country. It has also asked local authorities to facilitate the management of dog and other animal bites and provide necessary vaccination services.


The ministry is continuously coordinating with the relevant agencies to ensure the continued service through the organised distribution and management of available vaccines, informed the joint-spokesperson Dr. Adhikari.


According to him, the anti-rabies vaccines at Shukraraj Tropical and Infectious Disease Hospital, Teku, have a stock that will last for about 40 days. He mentioned that once the regular procurement process by the Department of Health Services is completed, the vaccine supply system is expected to become fully regular.
