Arzoo Rana elected regional member of IUCN

KATHMANDU, Sept 12: Dr Arzoo Rana has been elected regional member of the International Union of Nature Conservation (IUCN) for the second time. Three members were elected to represent South and East Asia in the World Conservation Congress which is underway in Jeju, South Korea.



Rana is the only Nepali to be elected as the regional member of the global organization where the government and non-government organizations are the members. [break]



“I am happy to be re elected and my objective is clear which is to apply more efforts for nature conservation,” Rana said after being elected through the tough competition.



The representatives from India, China, Bangladesh, South Korea, Nepal, Japan and the Philippines had filed their candidacy for the post. Rana from Nepal, Mina Gupta from India and Sinichi Kitajima from Japan were elected as the members for South and East Asia.



More than 8000 representatives representing government and non-government organizations from 180 countries are presently in South Korea to discuss about the future of nature conservation.
