KATHMANDU, June 26: Bipin Kumar Acharya, a close confidante of Rabi Lamichhane, has been elected general secretary of the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP), reinforcing the influence of Lamichhane's trusted allies in the party's new leadership.
Acharya secured 673 votes in the election for the party's executive positions. Earlier, another close associate of Lamichhane, Dr Swarnim Wagle, had been elected vice-president unopposed.

The party also elected Sobita Gautam as vice-chairperson for women. Gautam received 789 votes, defeating Tosima Karki, who secured 572 votes.
For the two open Joint General Secretary posts, Hari Dhakal and Asim Shah were elected. They prevailed over eight other contenders: Ramesh Prasain, Yagyamani Neupane, Sulav Kharel, Ashok Kumar Chaudhary, Milan Limbu, Rajiv Khatri, Bijay Jairu and Himesh Pant.
In the women's joint general secretary election, Nisha Dangi emerged victorious, defeating Julie Yadav, Bidushi Sharma, Kamini Kumari Chaudhary and Rima Bishwakarma.
