Birgunj Mayor ordered to post Rs 415,000 bail in forgery case

KATHMANDU, June 2: The Parsa District Court has ordered Birgunj Metropolitan City Mayor Rajeshman Singh to post bail amounting to Rs 415,000 in connection with two separate charges.



According to court officials, Judge Gayatri Prasad Regmi’s single bench issued the bail order after hearing a petition filed against him. Singh has been required to deposit Rs 400,000 for document forgery charges and Rs 15,000 for submitting false information.

A warrant for Singh’s arrest had been issued on May 8 following a complaint filed by a local resident Liaqat Ali, who also named three others in the case.


The complaint alleges that Singh issued citizenship documents based on forged papers, falsely declaring another person’s daughter as his own. Based on the complaint, the court had earlier issued the arrest warrant.


Further legal proceedings in the case are ongoing.
