KATHMANDU, July 26: A new book titled Nepal’s Water Resources, focusing on Nepal’s water resource development, its potential and the challenges posed by climate change, was launched in Kathmandu on Sunday.
The book was unveiled at a ceremony held at the Nepal Academy in Kamaladi by Janata Samajbadi Party Nepal Chair Upendra Yadav and other distinguished guests.

Written in both Nepali and English by water resources expert and politician Mahajan Yadav, the book examines the current state of Nepal’s water resources, policy challenges, the impacts of climate change, water management, energy, irrigation and sustainable development through facts and analysis.
Speaking at the launch, Upendra Yadav said that although Nepal is one of the world’s richest countries in terms of water resources, it has yet to utilize them in a scientific, well-planned and nationally beneficial manner. He stressed that water resources should not be viewed solely as a source of hydropower but should also be integrated into agriculture, drinking water, irrigation, industry, environmental protection and broader economic transformation through a long-term national strategy.
Author Mahajan Yadav said the book aims to promote more evidence-based policy discussions on Nepal’s water resources and serve as a useful reference for policymakers, researchers, students and other stakeholders. According to the author, the book provides a comprehensive analysis of the historical development of Nepal’s water resources as well as future opportunities and challenges, including policy and practical measures needed to address climate change.
The launch event was attended by political leaders, experts in the water resources and energy sectors, academics, researchers, government officials, journalists and other distinguished guests.
