KATHMANDU, Dec 24: Prime Minister Sushila Karki held her first face-to-face meeting with the top leaders of Nepal’s three major political parties on Tuesday, marking a significant ice-break in communication since the formation of the new government following the September 8–9 Gen Z protests.
The high-level talks took place at the President’s official residence, Sheetal Niwas, from 3:00 pm to 6:00 pm, bringing together Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba, CPN-UML Chair KP Sharma Oli, and Nepal Communist Party Coordinator Pushpa Kamal Dahal, along with Prime Minister Karki and President Ram Chandra Paudel.

The meeting signalled a breakthrough in dialogue between the government and major political parties, resulting in an understanding to ensure the smooth conduct of the House of Representatives elections scheduled for March 5.
According to President’s Press Adviser Kiran Pokhrel, the leaders agreed that holding elections on time is crucial for addressing the country’s pressing political challenges. “Elections were announced as a means to steer the country out of a grave and sensitive situation,” Pokhrel quoted President Paudel as saying. “Ensuring the success of the polls is our shared and singular responsibility.”
Observers said the meeting raised hopes for hassle-free elections, reflecting a rare convergence among Nepal’s top political leadership amid a volatile political landscape and highlighting a renewed commitment to dialogue and cooperation.
