‘Brihat Hawan’ hosted with focus on scientific interpretation of Vedic rituals

KATHMANDU, April 22: The Om Vedic Foundation organized a ‘Brihat Hawan’ ceremony at Pashupati area on Sunday, presenting what it described as a research-based scientific interpretation of traditional Vedic practices, with an emphasis on wellness and environmental balance.



The event, held as part of the foundation’s annual initiative, aimed to connect modern lifestyles with Vedic knowledge and promote what organizers called a “spiritual economy” rooted in Vedic science. The foundation also stated its long-term plan to establish a global-level education and research centre in Nepal focusing on Vedic studies and holistic development.


The programme began with remarks from CEO Devaraj Gautam, who highlighted ongoing collaboration with scientists and astrologers for research on alternative wellness practices and lifestyle approaches based on Vedic principles.

Former Chief Scientific Officer at Nepal Academy of Science and Technology and scientist Dr. Kanti Shrestha presented findings on the scientific aspects of Hawan practices, stating that medicinal plants, camphor, herbs and incense used in the ritual may contribute to air purification and environmental balance.


Health expert Dr. Subash Pyakurel stressed the need to bridge modern science with traditional Vedic knowledge and make it more accessible to the public in simple terms for everyday application.


Acharya Dr. Ashok Kumar Mishra of the South Asian Astro Federation said Vedic knowledge remains relevant for lifestyle and learning, while Acharya Laxman Panthi of the Nepal Panchanga Nirmayak Bikash Samiti highlighted the significance of Hawan for personal wellbeing and environmental conservation.


Organizers said the initiative will continue annually and may be expanded to international programmes promoting Vedic wellness practices.
