KATHMANDU, July 11: Entrepreneur Ashwin Raut, who poured petrol on himself and set himself on fire on Saturday morning in Buddhanagar, Kathmandu, has died.
Raut passed away during treatment at Bir Hospital on Saturday afternoon, informed Dr Piyush Dahal, a doctor involved in the treatment. According to Dahal, Raut’s condition was critical when he was brought to the hospital.
According to the hospital report, businessman Raut had more than 60 percent burns on his body. He was unconscious when he was brought to the hospital, while his heart rate returned after being given CPR once. “When his heart rate stopped for the second time, CPR also did not work,” said Dahal.

The 45-year-old Raut attempted to take his own life by setting himself on fire at his rented room. Police took Raut, who was injured in the fire, to Bir Hospital.
Preliminary police investigation suggests that Raut had a dispute with his son over an unspecified matter before taking the extreme step. Police said he set himself on fire at around 6:15 am after his wife and son had left the house. He reportedly went to the kitchen, poured oil over himself, and ignited the fire.
In the last three days, three incidents of self-immolation have been reported across the country. On Thursday, Ganesh Nepali of Mugu set himself on fire after an argument with the municipal police. He died during treatment at Bir Hospital on Friday.
On Friday, Vivek Mandal of Sarlahi also set himself on fire by pouring petrol. Mandal at his 35 of Gaudeta Municipality-10 in Sarlahi has been brought to Kathmandu by helicopter for treatment. His condition is also critical.
