KATHMANDU, Feb 22: The Central Security Committee has called for heightened security vigilance following recent communal unrest in Rautahat and directed authorities to take action against those responsible.
A meeting of the committee held on Saturday urged political parties to remain sensitive to the prevailing situation and to strictly adhere to the election code of conduct.

The meeting also decided to deploy Nepal Police Additional Inspector General (AIG) Uma Prasad Chaturvedi to the Madhesh region to analyse the recent incidents and assess the risk of further untoward activities. Chaturvedi will conduct a field assessment and submit a report.
Clashes between two communities have been reported in Rautahat over the past few days. In response, the local administration on Saturday imposed an indefinite curfew to prevent further escalation.
The meeting, chaired by Home Minister Om Prakash Aryal, who also heads the Central Security Committee, was attended by senior officials from all four security agencies.
Discussions focused primarily on addressing the emerging situation in the Terai–Madhesh region and reviewing security challenges related to the upcoming elections.
