Chinese Embassy denies reports of bribing journalists against Nepali politicians

In a statement issued on Sunday, the embassy said China firmly adheres to the principle of non-interference in the internal affairs of other countries and supports Nepal’s sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity.

KATHMANDU, May 25: The Chinese Embassy in Nepal has denied reports claiming that Chinese nationals attempted to bribe journalists to produce negative reports against Nepali politicians, describing the allegations as “groundless rumors.”



In a statement issued on Sunday, the embassy said China firmly adheres to the principle of non-interference in the internal affairs of other countries and supports Nepal’s sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity.

“The Chinese side is deeply shocked to learn of the rumors circulated by certain media outlets and categorically rejects them,” the statement said.


The embassy stated that China has consistently supported Nepal’s political stability, economic development and improvement in people’s livelihoods.


It also urged the concerned Nepali authorities to conduct a thorough investigation into the rumors and take action against those involved in spreading misinformation in accordance with Nepali law.


The embassy further said China is ready to strengthen law enforcement and security cooperation with Nepal to safeguard the shared interests of both countries.


Calling for an end to “rumors,” the embassy expressed confidence that Nepali people would distinguish right from wrong and continue contributing to Nepal-China friendship and cooperation.
