CHITWAN, July 20: Chitwan National Park distributed more than Rs 129.98 million in relief during the last fiscal year to compensate people living around the park for losses caused by wild animals.
The compensation covered human casualties, crop damage, livestock losses, destruction of stored grain, and damage to houses and sheds.
Over 63,000 travelled to Chitwan National Park in 6 months
According to the park's information officer, Abinash Thapa Magar, Rs 134,176 was provided for the treatment of minor injuries, while Rs 2.94 million was distributed to cover medical expenses for seriously injured victims. Families of five people killed in wildlife attacks received Rs 50 million in compensation.
The park also paid Rs 23.6 million for livestock losses, Rs 700,000 for damage to stored grain, Rs 339,650 for damage to houses and animal sheds, Rs 21.08 million for crop losses, and Rs 43,500 for poultry losses.
Chitwan National Park provides annual relief to residents of its buffer zone who suffer losses caused by wildlife.
