KATHMANDU, May 9: The Parliamentary Hearing Committee under the Federal Parliament has decided to collect complaints against proposed Chief Justice nominee Dr Manoj Kumar Sharma until May 18.
A meeting of the committee held on Friday decided to invite complaints as part of the parliamentary hearing process for Sharma, who was recommended for the post of chief justice by the Constitutional Council.
Five complaints lodged against proposed SC justices
Committee Chair Bodh Narayan Shrestha said the recommendation letter proposing Dr Sharma for the post of Chief Justice of the Supreme Court was received by the committee from the Constitutional Council on April 8.
Following this, the committee fixed a 10-day deadline to collect complaints against the nominee until May 18.
Shrestha said complaints can be submitted directly to the committee secretariat or through electronic means. Complaints can also be sent in sealed envelopes to Singha Durbar or through all 77 District Administration Offices across the country.
According to him, complaints may be filed either with the complainant’s identity disclosed or anonymously. However, the committee has urged individuals to submit evidence along with their complaints.
The committee has scheduled its next meeting for May 19. During the meeting, members will review the complaints received and decide on further procedures for the parliamentary hearing process.
