KATHMANDU, March 20: Nepali Communist Party (NCP) Coordinator Pushpa Kamal Dahal has warned of disciplinary action against central committee members and leaders of affiliated organizations who did not vote for the party’s candidates in the House of Representatives election held on March 5.

Speaking at a meeting held at the Central Party Office in Parisdanda on Thursday, Dahal said that internal reports suggest nearly 50 percent of votes shifted to the Rastriya Swatantra Party, particularly to its election symbol, the bell.

“You must submit reports identifying who did not vote for the party and who shifted toward the bell symbol. Action must be taken against them; otherwise, the party cannot be strengthened,” Dahal said.

He added that the party’s restructuring process would begin with such actions, starting from the central committee members. “Bring concrete reports on who did not vote for the party and who supported the bell. We will take action against them without hesitation,” he said.

Formed after the Gen-Z movement through the unification of more than two dozen communist factions, including the CPN (Maoist Centre) and the CPN (Unified Socialist), the NCP had aimed to emerge as the largest political force. However, in the March 5 election, the party was limited to just eight seats under the first-past-the-post system.
