KATHMANDU, July 26: Customs revenue collection of the government inclined at a slow pace of 6.5 percent while the import volume surged by 16.20 percent in the fiscal year (FY) 2025/26.
According to the Department of Customs (DoC), the government had set a target of collecting customs revenue worth Rs 588.25 billion during last fiscal year. However, the actual collection stood at only Rs 515.57 billion, which was 87.6 percent of the target. In the previous FY, the government had collected Rs 484.7 billion in customs revenue.

As per DoC officials, the slow increment in customs revenue could be due to the government providing billions of rupees in customs exemptions every year for various projects and sectors.
