KATHMANDU, Aug. 13: Former Nepali Congress (NC) President Sher Bahadur Deuba returned to Nepal on Thursday after six months abroad for medical treatment, receiving a grand welcome from leaders and cadres of the party’s rival faction.
Deuba landed at Tribhuvan International Airport at around 12:30 PM, where NC leaders and cadres greeted him with traditional music, cultural performances and a procession.
The rival faction opposed to the party establishment had mobilized cadres at open spaces near the Golden Gate, Namaste Gate and in front of Tilganga Eye Hospital ahead of his arrival.

The elaborate welcome comes as the faction prepares for a national gathering at Miracle Party Palace in Sukedhara on Friday, which Deuba is scheduled to attend.
Deuba left for Singapore on a Singapore Airlines flight on February 26 after sustaining injuries in a physical attack during the Gen Z protests. He later traveled to Hong Kong for further medical treatment.
A team of senior NC leaders led by Dr Shashank Koirala, coordinator of the committee organizing Friday’s gathering, reached the airport to welcome Deuba.
Party leaders and cadres are also preparing to escort Deuba from the airport in a procession featuring traditional music and cultural performances.
