Disaster relief fund swells to Rs 13.58 billion after Bhotekoshi flood

KATHMANDU, Sept 14: More than Rs 13.58 billion is now available in the Prime Minister’s Disaster Relief Fund following a significant increase in contributions after the Bhotekoshi flood.



According to the Ministry of Finance, Rs 8,92,20,07,759 was collected after the Bhotekoshi flood. An additional USD 22,856,475 was also collected after the flood. This is equivalent to around Rs 3,57,70,94,618 in Nepali currency.

According to the ministry, the fund had a total balance of Rs 13,58,15,24,783 as of 9 am Monday. Before the flood, the fund’s accounts in Nepali currency had a balance of Rs 2,08,24,22,405.


Similarly, the fund’s US dollar account had USD 586,048 before the flood, while an additional USD 22,856,475 was collected after the disaster.


The finance ministry said Rs 1 billion was transferred from the fund to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority on August 26.
