KATHMANDU, June 28: The Department of Foreign Employment (DoFE) has stepped up efforts to locate, organize and digitize thousands of foreign employment fraud cases and investigation files that have remained unattended for nearly 25 years.
The initiative covers records dating back to 2057 BS (2000/01), including long-pending complaint and investigation files related to foreign employment fraud. The DoFE said it has already completed the physical classification and archiving of thousands of files that had been left in storage for years.

Nepali workers have been filing complaints related to foreign employment since the Labour and Employment Promotion Department was established in 2056 BS (1999/2000), following the implementation of the Foreign Employment Act in 2042 BS (1985/86). After the Department of Foreign Employment was formed in 2064 BS (2007/08), responsibility for handling such cases was transferred to the new body.
The DoFE said the file management drive has been intensified following directives from Minister for Labour, Employment and Social Security Ramji Yadav, who has prioritised the investigation and prosecution of foreign employment fraud cases. The initiative is being carried out under the leadership of Director General Mira Acharya.
Alongside organizing the physical records, the department has begun scanning the recovered files to create digital copies. It also plans to develop a digital tracking system to make case investigation and management more efficient.
According to the DoFE, details of all available case files from 2057 BS onwards will be integrated into a digital database linked to the judicial process. The move is expected to improve transparency and help deliver faster services to victims of foreign employment fraud who have been waiting years for justice.
