KATHMANDU, April 4: At a time when factional alignments continue to shape internal dynamics of the Nepali Congress (NC), senior leader Dr Shekhar Koirala has sought to position himself above intra-party divisions, asserting that he does not belong to any camp.

Speaking at the annual general meeting of the BP Memorial Community Cooperative Hospital in Kathmandu on Saturday, Dr Koirala pushed back against narratives circulating on social media that link him to specific factions within the party. “I am not in this group or that group,” he said, in a measured but firm tone. “My effort, until the very end, will be to bring the Nepali Congress together as one.”

Framing unity as both a necessity and a responsibility, Dr Koirala emphasised that his political focus remains singular—consolidating the party at a time when cohesion is seen as critical to its electoral prospects. “My only wish is to see the Nepali Congress stand united and re-emerge as the country’s leading political force,” he said, underlining that he harbours no personal ambitions beyond that goal.
