KATHMANDU, July 25: A 56-year-old microbus driver was killed and six other people were injured after a microbus crashed into eight vehicles in Kathmandu's Maharajgunj area on Friday evening, according to Nepal Police.
The accident occurred at around 7 pm near Maharajgunj Chowk. Police said the microbus (Ba Pra 03-001 Ja 0814) was travelling from Basundhara Chowk towards Chabahil when it ploughed into several vehicles moving in the same direction.
Driver killed on the spot in microbus-truck collision
The driver, Ram Krishna Hawal, 56, of Siddhi Rural Municipality-5, Lamjung, who was residing in Kapan, sustained critical injuries in the crash. He was rushed to Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital in Maharajgunj, where doctors pronounced him dead at 8:10 pm, police said.
Among the injured were Ganesh Bahadur Shahi, 35, originally from Kalikot and residing in Kapan, who was travelling in vehicle Ba 4 Kha 7824, and Purna, 44, of Tokha, a passenger in taxi Ba Pra 01-002 Ja 9502.
Also injured were Surya Magar, 33, originally from Udayapur and residing in Dhumbarahi, and his pillion rider, Gyan Bahadur Sunuwar, 61, of Jorpati, who were travelling on motorcycle Ba 55 Pa 1078.
Saroj Dhungana, 37, and Binita Dhakal, 35, a couple from Sindhupalchok residing in Kapan, who were travelling on scooter Ba Pra 02-056 Pa 6355, also sustained injuries.
Police are investigating the cause of the crash.
