Eight arrested with illegal vapes worth Rs 3.7 million in Rasuwa

KATHMANDU, May 21: Police in Rasuwa have arrested eight people after seizing illegal electronic cigarettes worth nearly Rs 3.7 million from Dalphedi in Gosainkunda Rural Municipality–1.



According to the District Police Office, Rasuwa, a police team deployed from the Area Police Office in Timure conducted a raid on Wednesday night based on a special tip-off.

During a search of a house belonging to 44-year-old local resident Mammaya Tamang, police recovered 1,225 vape devices hidden inside plastic sacks packed in six cartons. The seized products were labelled “Elfbar Ice King (30,000 puffs).”


Police estimated the market value of the confiscated vapes at around Rs 3.675 million.


Those arrested on charges of storing and transporting the illegal products include house owner Mammaya Tamang, Rajkumar Tamang, Cho Maya Tamang, Kesh Bahadur Gurung, Sahin Gurung, Sagar Khatri, Subas Tamang and Netra Bahadur Thapa Magar.


Police said all eight suspects have been taken into custody and further investigation is underway.
