KATHMANDU, April 1: Minister for Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation Biraj Bhakta Shrestha has formed a Good Governance Unit aimed at making the ministry’s work more efficient, transparent and results-oriented.
The unit was established in accordance with the Good Governance (Management and Operation) Act, 2008 (2064 BS), related regulations, and a decision of the Government of Nepal’s Council of Ministers.
The newly formed unit will regularly monitor and evaluate the performance of employees working at the ministry and its subordinate agencies.

According to the ministry, the Joint Secretary of the Administration Division will serve as the coordinator of the unit. Joint secretaries from the divisions of program, budget and monitoring; water resources; energy; development assistance and provincial coordination; water and meteorology; and legal affairs and decision implementation will serve as members. The Under-Secretary of the Information and Public Relations Section will act as the member secretary.
The unit will primarily monitor whether the tasks set by the ministry under the delivery-based governance system are completed within the stipulated time, whether responsible officials are fulfilling their duties effectively, and the status of implementation of performance indicators.
It will also evaluate progress in employees’ assigned responsibilities, compliance with legal deadlines, and the effective use of government resources.
The ministry expressed confidence that the unit will help improve work culture, enhance accountability, and promote good governance within the ministry.
