KATHMANDU, July 1: Police have arrested five people on charges of defrauding job seekers of a total of Rs 6.5 million by falsely promising lucrative employment opportunities abroad.
According to the Central Police News Room, those arrested are Wangdi Lama of Sindhupalchok, Lalit Bahadur Tamang of Ramechhap, Santoshi Lama of Dhading, Ramdas Maharjan of Chandragiri Municipality-8 and Sarib Giri of Kathmandu Metropolitan City-15.

Police said Wangdi allegedly collected Rs 50,000 from one victim by promising a job in Azerbaijan. Lalit Bahadur is accused of taking Rs 250,000 from another victim with the promise of employment in Kosovo, while Santoshi allegedly defrauded one person of Rs 1.5 million by claiming to arrange a job in Spain.
Similarly, Ramdas allegedly collected Rs 4.5 million from seven individuals by offering jobs in the United Arab Emirates, while Sarib is accused of taking Rs 2 million from one victim with the promise of employment in Canada.
The suspects were arrested from different locations by a team from the Kathmandu Valley Crime Investigation Office and have been handed over to the Department of Foreign Employment for further legal action.
