KATHMANDU, Oct 30: Air travel across the country has been badly affected due to adverse weather conditions. Poor visibility and worsening enroute weather have disrupted both domestic and international flights from Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA).
According to TIA Spokesperson Rinji Sherpa, several domestic flights have been diverted, while operations at Bharatpur and Tumlingtar airports have been suspended. Pokhara Airport has halted arrivals, though departures remain open. A Shree Airlines flight from Biratnagar to Kathmandu was diverted back to Biratnagar and another flight from Bhairahawa to Kathmandu was redirected to Bhairahawa.
Adverse weather affects flights at TIA
On the international front, a Nepal Airlines aircraft was diverted to New Delhi along with an IndiGo flight. An Air India flight was also diverted to Lucknow, Spokesperson Sherpa confirmed. The current visibility at TIA stands at 2,500 meters and poor enroute weather continues to cause flight delays and cancellations.
Meanwhile, the Meteorological Forecasting Division (MFD) reported that Cyclone Montha, which formed in the Bay of Bengal, entered India’s Andhra Pradesh on October 27 and has since weakened while moving northwest toward Nepal as a low-pressure system.
Due to its influence, weather in Bagmati, Madhesh and Koshi provinces is expected to remain affected until November 1. Moderate rainfall is likely in most parts of Madhesh and Koshi provinces and some areas of Bagmati, with heavy rainfall possible in isolated locations, the MFD warned, urging the public to take necessary precautions.
