KATHMANDU, July 1: Nepal Medical Council (NMC) has filed a complaint with the Cyber Bureau of Nepal Police against former government secretary Bhim Prasad Upadhyaya, accusing him of defamation and spreading misleading information through social media.

According to the NMC, Upadhyaya posted objectionable content on his verified Facebook account on June 30, using a photograph of acting registrar Dr Dipendra Pandey of the NMC. The NMC alleged that the post contained abusive language and misleading accusations targeting its officials.

The NMC said its routine legal and regulatory actions had been falsely portrayed as acts of personal vendetta, creating misinformation about the institution. It further claimed that the social media activity amounted to cyberbullying and violated Section 47 of the Electronic Transactions Act, 2006.

The complaint was submitted to the Cyber Bureau along with screenshots of the Facebook post as evidence. Police said further investigation into the case is underway.
