KATHMANDU, April 13: Former King Gyanendra Shah has said that Nepal has turned into a “laboratory” of political experiments, arguing that repeated political changes alone have not improved the country’s situation.
Issuing a video message on the eve of the Nepali New Year 2083, Shah said that political changes implemented by successive governments have proved to be “mere formalities” and have failed to bring meaningful progress.
Extending New Year wishes to Nepalis at home and abroad, he expressed concern that political infighting among parties has pushed the country backward and prevented stable governance.

He said lessons from the past show that merely changing systems, methods, or individuals does not bring overall improvement.
“We have been constantly experimenting, constantly searching for alternatives. As a result, our country has remained only a laboratory,” Shah said in his message.
He added that while the nation continues to move amid political instability, it has lagged behind in national prosperity, losing both stability and continuity.
