KATHMANDU, Feb 27: Nepali Congress (NC) President Gagan Thapa has pledged that if his party forms the government, it will begin by investigating the assets of former party president and former prime minister Sher Bahadur Deuba.
Speaking at an election rally in Pokhara on Friday, Thapa said that if the NC leads the government, it will start by probing the assets of Deuba, who has served as prime minister since 1990, as well as his own assets as a former minister.
“The country wants freedom from corruption. The first thing a Nepali Congress government will do is establish a powerful commission. That commission will begin its investigation with the assets of Sher Bahadur Deuba, who has served as prime minister since 1990, and the assets of Gagan Thapa, who has served as a minister,” Thapa said. “It will not spare even its own leaders. It will investigate every matter and every scandal.”

Thapa stated that the NC is committed to forming a strong commission to investigate corruption and ensure that no one can engage in corrupt practices in the country again.
“We will not allow such scandals to occur in the future. For that, we will build institutions and enact laws. The NC has come forward with this commitment,” he said.
He also stated that if the party forms the government, it aims to bring about revolutionary transformation within five years in the sectors of education, health, agriculture, employment and industry.
“In education, health, agriculture, employment and industry, we will bring revolutionary transformation within five years. But how? Not by wielding whips, not by hanging anyone, not by beating anyone. This can be achieved within the framework of rules and the law,” Thapa said.
