Govt accelerates groundwork for constitutional amendment

KATHMANDU, April 28: The government has intensified formal preparations for amending the constitution through the ‘Taskforce to Prepare a Constitutional Amendment Discussion Paper–2082’.



The taskforce, led by Prime Minister Balen Shah’s chief political advisor Asim Shah, has organized a special consultation with senior advocates and legal experts at the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers on Tuesday between 3 PM and 5 PM.

The taskforce had held a similar discussion with constitutional experts a day earlier.


Formed by a Cabinet decision on March 30, the taskforce has been advancing the consultation process in line with its meeting decision taken on April 23.


Based on suggestions collected from various stakeholders, the taskforce is preparing to draft a comprehensive discussion paper on constitutional amendments and submit it to the government.
