KATHMANDU, July 2: The Department of Transport Management (DoTM) has reduced fares for inter-provincial public transport by 2 percent following the recent decline in petroleum prices.

According to the DoTM, the fare adjustment was made in line with the reduction in fuel prices. The revised fares apply to passenger vehicles, goods vehicles operating on hilly roads, and cargo trucks plying on Terai routes.

The adjustment comes after the Nepal Oil Corporation (NOC) recently reduced the price of petrol by Rs 20 per litre and diesel by Rs 30 per litre. The DoTM said the new fares will come into effect from Thursday for public transport operating on national routes connecting two or more provinces.

Earlier, in late April, the DoTM had increased fares for passenger and freight vehicles by up to 5 percent following a rise in fuel prices.
