Govt increases excise duty on dog and cat food by 10 percent

The hike was introduced through the Financial Act presented by Finance Minister Bishnu Prasad Paudel on Thursday as part of the new budget. In the current Fiscal Year (FY) 2024/25, only 10 percent excise duty was imposed on pet food for dogs and cats.

KATHMANDU, May 30: The government has increased the excise duty on pet food for dogs and cats by 10 percent.



The hike was introduced through the Financial Act presented by Finance Minister Bishnu Prasad Paudel on Thursday as part of the new budget. In the current Fiscal Year (FY) 2024/25, only 10 percent excise duty was imposed on pet food for dogs and cats.

However, in the upcoming FY, a 20 percent excise duty will be levied on such items imported from abroad.


Nepal imports pet food worth over Rs 3 billion every year for dogs and cats.
