KATHMANDU, May 29 : The government has proposed initiating a national-level discussion on providing state funding to political parties based on their electoral performance.
Finance Minister Dr. Swarnim Wagle made the announcement while presenting the national budget for fiscal year 2026/27 on Friday.
MPs call for state funding to political parties
He said that a broad public debate will be conducted on whether political parties should receive financial support from the state based on the votes they secure in elections. He also stated that any such funds would be subject to audit by the Office of the Auditor General to ensure transparency and accountability.
