Govt reappoints ousted Dhital as chief of Electricity Regulatory Commission

The government has appointed Ram Prasad Dhital as the Chairperson of the Electricity Regulatory Commission (ERC).

KATHMANDU, July 23: The government has appointed Ram Prasad Dhital as the Chairperson of the Electricity Regulatory Commission (ERC).



A cabinet meeting held on Wednesday decided to appoint Dhital as the Chairman and Jayaraj Bhandari, Balram Silwal and Lokraj Pathak as the three members of the ERC. Previously, Dhital lost his job as the ERC’s chairperson after the government dismissed 1,594 officials appointed through various political and statutory mechanisms across state institutions through implementation of the ‘Special Ordinance on Removal of Public Officials, 2026’ on May 1.

Bhandari and Silwal, who have been appointed as members, are retired directors of the Nepal Electricity Authority. Pathak is considered to be a person with experience related to the energy, water resources and regulatory sectors.
