KATHMANDU, July 2: The government has shut down 26 mobile apps and nearly 250,000 websites involved in illegal online betting.
The Ministry of Communication and Information Technology (MoCIT), through the Nepal Telecommunications Authority (NTA), took action against the illegally operating betting websites and apps.

Three months ago, the ministry directed the NTA to instruct all Internet Service Providers (ISPs) and mobile service providers to block illegal online betting and gambling websites and apps operating in Nepal. Following the directive, the NTA has so far shut down more than two dozen mobile apps and nearly 250,000 betting websites.
Among individual ISPs, Websurfer blocked 35,454 illegal betting websites, followed by DishHome with 25,538, Classitech with 25,516, and Sajilo Net with 24,936.
Among mobile service providers, Ncell blocked 22,226 betting websites. WorldLink blocked 22,063 sites, Nepal Telecom 21,743, TechMinds 21,768, and Subisu 21,705.
Similarly, CG Net shut down 17,706 betting websites, Eastlink blocked 14,304, Vianet 10,446, and Pokhara Net 7,334.
