Govt to suspend health insurance services at private hospitals from May 30 amid financial crisis

KATHMANDU, May 27: The government has decided to suspend health insurance services at private hospitals from May 30, citing a growing financial crisis.



According to the Health Insurance Board, all insurance-covered services provided through private hospitals, except emergency care, will be halted starting from May 30.

The Board stated that the decision was taken due to mounting financial pressure within the health insurance system. According to reports, the board has already sent official notices to service-provider hospitals regarding the suspension.


Emergency services, however, will continue under the health insurance scheme even after the suspension comes into effect.
