KATHMANDU, June 30: Minister for Communications and Information Technology Bikram Timilsina on Monday said the government has revived the postal service as a modern, reliable and citizen-friendly system for delivering public services directly to people's homes.
Speaking at a high-level dialogue on postal service modernization, Timilsina said the traditional postal system has been transformed into a technology-enabled "government courier service" that now delivers official documents, including passports and driving licences, to citizens' doorsteps.

He said the initiative has improved service delivery by saving citizens time and costs while increasing trust in government services. He also stressed the need for stronger public-private collaboration and institutional reforms to further modernize postal services.
Ministry Secretary Laxmi Kumari Basnet said the Department of Postal Service has signed agreements with seven government agencies to deliver services such as passports, driver's licences, educational certificates and health reports directly to households.
The government has included the expansion of doorstep delivery of public documents in its 100-day governance reform agenda and plans to gradually transform post offices across the country into "Smart Post Offices" under the upcoming fiscal year's policy and budget.
