KATHMANDU, May 26: Lawmaker Anushka Shrestha has called on the government to ensure stronger representation of “Made in Nepal” products at Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA), saying the airport should better reflect the country’s national identity.
Speaking during the zero hour in the House of Representatives, she said international airports around the world serve as showcases of national culture and identity, but Nepal’s main international gateway still lacks adequate promotion of local products.
Transport operators urge parties to prioritise public transport...
“Our Tribhuvan Airport still shows a weak presence of Nepal’s taste, handicrafts and Made in Nepal products,” she said. “As thousands of passengers leave Nepal every day, sending them back with local products is an opportunity to promote Nepal’s identity globally.”
She urged the government and airport management to ensure dedicated sections for Nepali products in all airport shops and tender processes.
She also called for priority to be given to small and domestic entrepreneurs in airport retail spaces.
