KATHMANDU, July 10: The Ministry of Education, Science and Sports has warned educational institutions operating foreign academic programmes without prior government approval that they will face legal action.
The warning comes after the Cabinet on Wednesday approved the Foreign Educational Programmes (Operation and Regulation) Regulations, 2083, aimed at regulating colleges affiliated with foreign academic institutions and improving the quality of higher education.
The ministry said the new regulations introduce stricter standards for colleges operating in Nepal under affiliations with foreign universities.

Under Secretary Krishna Chandra Pokhrel said the ministry reiterated the provision after finding that some institutions were still running programmes such as A-Level, CBSE, the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP) and other foreign curricula without obtaining approval.
According to the ministry, the regulations are intended to enhance the quality, credibility and international competitiveness of higher education while strengthening oversight of foreign-affiliated institutions.
The ministry has also urged stakeholders to provide written information about institutions operating foreign educational programmes without government approval.
