KATHMANDU, July 24: Minister for Education, Science and Sports Sasmit Pokharel has said the government will not backtrack on the provision requiring educational consultancy firms to deposit a Rs 2.5 million security bond.
Speaking to journalists covering the education sector at the ministry in Singha Durbar on Friday, Pokharel said the provision introduced through the Educational Consultancy, Language Training and Preparatory Class Operation and Management Regulations, 2026 (2083 BS) will remain in place, noting that it was formulated based on suggestions from some stakeholders in the consultancy business itself.
Responding to a question on whether the government might reverse the decision—as it did with the three percent Education Equity Fee—Pokharel said there is no such plan.

He added that while drafting major laws such as the School Education Act, the government will consult all relevant stakeholders in advance.
The minister also said newly appointed vice-chancellors of universities have been asked to move forward with their own vision papers to help ensure universities remain autonomous and free from partisan influence.
Pokharel, who also serves as the government spokesperson, urged educational institutions and government offices to make full use of the recently introduced two-day weekly holiday, adding that the decision will not be reconsidered.
He also said he has long supported the campaigns led by Dr Govinda KC and that informal dialogue with the senior orthopedic surgeon is ongoing.
