TAPLEJUNG, March 18: Consumers in Taplejung are facing higher prices for cooking gas, as a half-filled LPG cylinder is now being sold for Rs 1,300 due to rising transportation costs.
According to Taplejung Chamber of Commerce and Industry President Bikash Gautam, a meeting of gas cylinder distributors on Wednesday decided to fix the price of a 7.1 kg (half-filled) LPG cylinder at Rs 1,300.

Previously, a fully filled 14.2 kg cylinder was being sold in Phungling at Rs 2,200. With the new pricing, consumers will now pay Rs 1,300 for half the quantity.
The Nepal Oil Corporation (NOC) had set the price of a half-filled cylinder at Rs 955.
Gautam said that although the weight of the cylinder has been reduced, transportation costs remain nearly the same, as both full and half cylinders occupy similar space during transit. Rising fuel prices have further increased costs.
He added that the price was agreed upon after extensive discussions among distributors, and Chief District Officer Shivraj Sedhai had been informed in advance.
CDO Sedhai has also written to concerned authorities, urging them to arrange the supply of fully filled 14.2 kg cylinders in Taplejung to help reduce transportation costs and provide relief to consumers.
