KATHMANDU, July 26: The Health Insurance Board (HIB) has stated that it settled more than Rs 25.48 billion in health insurance claims up to mid-December 2025.
According to the HIB, it has deposited the aforementioned amount in the bank accounts of the health institutions as reimbursement for the insurance claims.

Nepal's national health insurance program, introduced to provide relief to citizens from medical expenses and ensure universal access to healthcare, has invited criticism as patients across the country report receiving incomplete treatment despite being insured.
On the other hand, claiming lack of financial resources, the government had also stopped the payments to the hospitals for six and a half months, causing the hospitals to remain indecisive to continue the schemes. It was only last month that the hospitals were ready to resume the program after the government released partial payments of the outstanding dues.
Under the national health insurance scheme, a family of up to five members pays a premium of Rs 3,500 per year in return for treatment, including medicines, check-ups, and counselling. One family member can use the insurance coverage worth Rs 100,000 per year, or the amount can be divided among five members. Families with more than five members pay Rs700 per additional member for an extra Rs 20,000 in health insurance coverage.
