KATHMANDU, July 22: Continuous rainfall has disrupted traffic on several major highways across Nepal, with landslides and flooding blocking key road sections in multiple districts.
According to Nepal Police, as of 7:00 am Wednesday, highways in Sindhupalchok, Ilam, Baglung, Panchthar and Gorkha remain completely blocked. Nighttime vehicle movement has also been suspended on some roads as a safety measure.
Authorities have imposed a nightly traffic restriction on the BP Highway's Khurkot, Nepalthok, Katunjebesi section in Kavrepalanchok and Sindhuli because of the risk of flooding. All vehicles are prohibited from operating between 6:00 pm and 4:00 am until further notice, while traffic is allowed from 4:00 am to 6:00 pm.

A similar nighttime ban has been enforced on the Kanti Highway in Makwanpur to reduce the risk of rain related accidents.
On the Mechi Highway in Ilam Municipality, Ward 9, Rajduwali, muddy road conditions caused by heavy rain have completely blocked traffic. However, an alternative route remains open.
The Araniko Highway has been closed after a landslide struck Jiro Kilo in Bhotekoshi Rural Municipality, Ward 4, while mud and debris from the Iku landslide near Kodari in Ward 2 have also halted traffic.
In Baglung, a landslide carrying rocks and mud has blocked the Belbagar section of the Kaligandaki Corridor in Jaimini Municipality, Ward 8.
The Ranke, Ravi, Bhedetar road in Miklajung Rural Municipality, Ward 4, Panchthar has also been blocked by a landslide, while a mudslide at Liding in Dharche Rural Municipality, Ward 7, has completely disrupted traffic on the Arughat, Machhikhola road in Gorkha.
Police have urged travelers to check the latest road conditions before setting out, warning that the risk of floods and landslides remains high due to continuing rainfall.
