KATHMANDU, June 18: Heavy rainfall has been recorded in several parts of the country, while temperatures in the Tarai region have surged sharply.
According to the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology (DHM), heavy rainfall occurred in Gorkha, Morang, Sunsari, and Jhapa over the past 24 hours. Gorkha recorded 71.8 mm of rainfall, Morang 61.8 mm, Sunsari 51.4 mm, and Jhapa 71.2 mm. Earlier, Jhapa had recorded more than 103 mm of rainfall.
Information Officer Dinkar Kayastha said that while heavy rainfall continues in some districts, temperatures are rising in other parts of the country.
Heavy rain likely in some parts of the country
According to the latest records, Bhairahawa recorded a temperature of 41.5°C, while Nepalgunj reached 40.4°C. Dhangadhi recorded 38.8°C. Temperatures have also increased in other districts, including Kathmandu, which reached 31.3°C.
Kayastha said that today there is a possibility of hot weather conditions in Dhangadhi, Birendranagar, Nepalgunj, Ghorahi, Bhairahawa, and Simara.
The DHM said that a partial influence of a western low-pressure trough in the upper atmosphere, along with local and eastern winds, is currently affecting Nepal.
According to the weather bulletin issued today, the hilly and Himalayan regions of the country will generally remain cloudy, while the Tarai regions of Koshi and Madhesh provinces will experience partly cloudy conditions.
Weather is expected to remain mainly clear in the Tarai regions of Bagmati, Gandaki, Lumbini, and Sudurpaschim provinces.
There is a possibility of light to moderate rainfall with thunder and lightning in a few places of the Himalayan and hilly regions of Koshi, Bagmati, and Gandaki provinces, and in one or two places of Lumbini, Karnali, and Sudurpaschim provinces.
Similarly, one or two places in the Tarai of Koshi and Madhesh provinces may also receive light to moderate rainfall with thunder and lightning.
The DHM has also warned of hot day conditions in some places of the Tarai regions of Lumbini and Sudurpaschim provinces, and in a few places of the Tarai in Bagmati and Gandaki provinces.
