KATHMANDU, July 5: Monsoon conditions continue to affect the country, with the monsoon trough positioned south of its normal location over the eastern region and around its average position in the western region, according to the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology.
Skies remain generally cloudy across Nepal. Moderate rain accompanied by thunder and lightning is occurring at a few places in Koshi, Bagmati, and Gandaki provinces and at one or two locations in the hilly areas of Lumbini Province.
Heavy rainfall likely in some provinces today
The department forecasts generally cloudy conditions across the country's hilly and mountainous regions this afternoon. The Tarai areas of Gandaki, Lumbini, and Sudurpaschim provinces are also expected to remain generally cloudy, while the Tarai of Koshi, Madhesh, and Bagmati provinces will see partly to generally cloudy skies.
Moderate rain with thunder and lightning is likely at a few places in the hilly and mountainous regions. Similar weather is expected at a few places in the Tarai of Gandaki, Lumbini, Sudurpaschim, Koshi, and Bagmati provinces, and at one or two locations in Madhesh Province. Heavy rainfall is possible at one or two places in both the hilly and Tarai areas of Gandaki, Lumbini, and Sudurpaschim provinces.
Tonight, skies will remain generally cloudy in Karnali and Sudurpaschim provinces, while the rest of the country will experience partly to generally cloudy conditions. A few places in the mountainous region may receive rain and snowfall accompanied by thunder and lightning.
Moderate rain with thunder and lightning is likely at a few places in the hilly and Tarai areas of Sudurpaschim Province, the hilly areas of Koshi and Karnali provinces, and the hilly and Tarai areas of Bagmati, Gandaki, and Lumbini provinces. One or two places in the Tarai of Koshi Province and Madhesh Province may also receive thunderstorms and rainfall.
The department has warned that heavy rainfall is possible at one or two places in the hilly and Tarai areas of Sudurpaschim Province and has urged people to take necessary precautions.
