KATHMANDU, Aug. 15: The monsoon remains active across Nepal, with several provinces likely to receive heavy rainfall, particularly in hilly areas, the Meteorological Forecasting Division (MFD) said on Friday.
The Division said the monsoon trough is currently near its average position in the east and slightly north of its average position in the west, remaining close to Nepal.
Most of Koshi, Bagmati, Karnali and Sudurpashchim provinces, along with the hilly and mountainous areas of Gandaki and Lumbini provinces, are experiencing generally cloudy conditions. Madhesh Province and the Terai areas of Gandaki and Lumbini are partly cloudy.

Moderate rainfall has been reported at some places in Koshi, Bagmati, Lumbini, Karnali and Sudurpashchim provinces, as well as at one or two places in Gandaki Province.
The weather is expected to remain generally cloudy across the country this afternoon. Several hilly and mountainous areas could receive moderate rain and snowfall accompanied by thunder and lightning.
Moderate rain with thunder and lightning is also likely in some parts of the Terai in Lumbini and Sudurpashchim, as well as in the Terai areas of Koshi, Bagmati and Gandaki provinces, including Madhesh.
The MFD has forecast heavy rainfall in some hilly areas of Bagmati, Gandaki and Karnali provinces, as well as at one or two places in the hilly and Terai areas of Lumbini Province.
Heavy rain is also likely in a few hilly areas of Bagmati, Gandaki and Karnali tonight.
Amid the possibility of heavy rainfall and the resulting risks of flash floods, landslides and soil erosion, the Division has urged the public to take necessary precautions and stay updated on the latest monsoon conditions.
